IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers DIMINUTIVE DEPUTIES - 5-year-old Maximilian Jensen of Westlake Village, center, finds a good spot for a nap on the bed of a Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriffs Station jail cell as fellow visiting kids explore around him, during a tour of the station as part of the Pee Wee Deputy Program on Saturday, April 26. The program lets local 3-5 year olds "train" to be a deputy and see what their day-to-day duties would be like.

Parkinson was diagnosed with the disease in 2005 and has seen a complete turnaround in her symptoms since she started boxing.

Simi’s “Christmas House” Founder Passes Away

IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers END OF AN ERA - Local residents gather for a vigil at the home of John Becker, whose wife Phyllis passed away on Sunday, March 16. Phyllis Becker started decorating their Sycamore Drive home for Christmas 49 years ago and as the decorations became more elaborate, taking over the yard and driveway, it became a community landmark.

Head Shaving Support for Tyler Thompson

IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers SHAVING TO SUPPORT - St. Rose of Lima Catholic School first grader Drake Sakamoto, 7, squeals with laughter as school parent Steve Beausang gives him a close buzz during a head-shaving event for students and staff to show their support for sixth grader Tyler Thompson,  who has lost his hair from undergoing chemotherapy, at the school on Friday, March 14. The money raised from the event will be donated to the Thompson family to help with Tyler's medical costs.

IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers SHAKESPEARE FOR A CAUSE - Westlake High School students Mike Ghaussy, left, and Rei Vardi perform a scene from “Romeo and Juliet” during “The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged),” a play they produced and starred in with fellow student Kevin Shi on Sunday, March 9 to benefit the Westminster Free Clinic. The play, which was not part of the school’s drama department, was self-funded by the students.
