 RICHARD GILLARD/Acorn Newspapers Retired Ventura County Firefighter Tom Retan, of Simi Valley, bows his head while paying respect at the station where he served, station 41, in Simi Valley on Thursday, September 11 during a special remembrance for those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The remembrance was held at each of the 32 Ventura County Fire Department stations.

The old-fashioned 1962 institutions will be demolished and replaced with state-of-the-art facility.
